Class Description: Learn how to record a song from start to finish at the Green Street Arts Center Sound Studio. Our professional sound engineer, John Bergeron has recorded many albums of his own and has worked as a session player for keyboards, an arranger of strings and horns, a producer, and a recording engineer over the years. He’s recorded in Los Angeles, New York, Nashville, London, and more.

This 10 week class will teach you the techniques of sound production using ProTools software and plug ins. You’ll also learn nuanced parts of the of the process like how to get the best work out of musicians in the studio.

The class will start with learning the tools and etiquette of the studio. Once students are acclimated to the equipment, John will demo the process of recording a song step by step. Students in the class will identify singer songwriters or guitarists at Wesleyan to serve as guest artists for the class. Guest artists will receive a free recording session and a copy of the final song.

Once the demo is complete, the class becomes very hands on. Each student gets to go through the process of recording a guest artist with guidance from John. You’ll get to pick the artist, set up the studio, record, edit, mix, and master the song.

If interested, please contact the Green Street Arts Center at 860-685-7871 or gsac@wesleyan.edu. Open to all majors.

Friday, August 2-Gallery Walk at Green Street Arts Center featuring Jon Sideriadis

On Friday, August 2nd, from 5-8:00 p.m. (in conjunction with Middletown’s Gallery Walk series) there will be an opening reception for Connecticut artist, Jon Sideriadis whose exhibit, Astromythos, featuring compelling, other worldly illustrations will be on display at Green Street from August 2nd through August 29th during regular business hours (M-TH 9 a.m.-5 p.m. and Fridays 9 a.m.-12 noon).

Gallery Walk John

Jon Sideriadis is an accomplished freelance illustrator and writer, as well as, an adjunct faculty member at Hartford Art School at the University of Hartford.  The exhibit title, Astromythos, a Greek-like word that Sideriadis has purposefully invented, literally translates to “the star myth”– and also serves as the title for a fictional universe that is the setting for an illustrated book series that Sideriadis has been developing for the past thirteen years.  This creatively concocted term combines the words “astronomy” and “mythology”– two subjects for which he is intensely passionate.  In the tradition of the Epic poets, the fictional world of Astromythos presents an older, more sophisticated mode of storytelling to modern fans of fantasy and science fiction.  Heavily influenced by the art of the Byzantium and Illuminated Manuscripts, each of his intricately detailed paintings depicts an allegorical character or a scene from one of the fascinating myths of his magical Astromythos universe.  To visitors of this exhibit—young or old, literary scholar, or sci-fi fan, each of those alluring characters and startling frames of imagery provides a certain visual feast for the imagination.

Learning Microsoft Office basics at Green Street

Green Street’s community computer class is up and running. The goal is to give people a better understanding of Microsoft Office basics. The class is split into three sections of two weeks each, one for each Office program – Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Our first two classes focus on Microsoft Word, the word processing program. Word provides a foundation for the other Office programs. “I’m excited to go to work now, this is going to save me so much time,” was the response of one of our students after learning some of the features of Word.

If you are interested in learning the basics of Excel, the spreadsheet, those two classes will be June 24 and July 1 from 6-8pm. The classes build on each other so you should attend both.

The two classes for PowerPoint, the presentation program, will be July 15 and July 22 from 6-8pm.

Call us today to sign up 860-685-7871. Classes are $10 each, due up front.
